About The Han Solo Project

The Han Solo Project is a rock band that writes original songs about Star Wars. Not covers of the Cantina Band. Not the Imperial March with a drum machine on it. Five albums of original music about fan theories, minor characters, bad Death Star safety engineering, and whatever else two lifelong fans argue about.

We met years ago in a small Iowa band called Thoughts of Crossing. “The Han Solo Project” started life there as a bad pun and a worse working title for a record that never happened.

Then Disney bought Lucasfilm, wiped the canon, and announced a decade of new movies. Somewhere between the skepticism and the genuine excitement, the joke stopped being a joke. We picked the name back up and started writing.

What the songs are about

Mostly the parts of Star Wars nobody writes songs about. Nien Nunb, a Sullustan with roughly four lines and one laugh, got a single. Admiral Ackbar got an entire album named after his habit of losing limbs. There’s a song about Chewbacca starting a cookie business, one about the Death Star’s complete lack of guardrails, and one that takes the Indiana Jones-is-Han-Solo’s-carbonite-fever-dream theory entirely too seriously.

The tone is affectionate. We are not doing bits at the expense of the thing we love. We’re doing bits because we love it enough to have opinions about Holdó’s maneuver.

Live

We played the iVoted Festival in 2020 and were invited back in 2022, where we performed a set of songs we’d never played live before.
